Four More Clues You May Need A Lawyer (Before It’s Too Late)

1. You’ve been thinking about getting that contract/sales agreement updated, but just haven’t gotten around to it.

Similar to your Will, if it has been years since you updated your business’s sales agreements, it is time to re-evaluate. Your business needs to be protected, especially in the evolving legal world. Don’t continue to use the same hand-written contracts from ten years ago because that’s the way you’ve always done it.

2. You’ve started a business or entered into a verbal agreement with a long time friend or family member, and you don’t have any reason not to trust them.

Legal disputes between friends and family are more common than you would believe. Even if you get along perfectly with your family now, there is no reason not to protect that relationship in writing. If you have a verbal agreement, make sure you write it down. We can help you draft an agreement which would dictate a procedure to resolve any disputes that may arise in the future, thereby avoiding unnecessary quarreling.

3. You’ve been offered a settlement, and you aren’t sure if you should take it.

It doesn’t hurt to have an attorney take a second look. Particularly, if you’ve been offered a settlement, such as a personal injury settlement following an auto accident, it is an indication that you may have a good case. Don’t be afraid to get a legal opinion from someone looking out for your best interest.

4. The person you are dealing with tells you that you don’t need a lawyer.

Often times, opposing parties will try to convince you that you don’t need an attorney because it will just increase your costs. In doing so, they make you believe that it is in your best interest to take the agreement that they are offering you. This may be a warning sign that they know an attorney could drastically hurt their chances of success. Before proceeding, take the time to consult with an attorney about any proposed agreement or before accepting a position being offered by the other party or their lawyer.
