If you currently homeschool your children, or are considering it as an option, you are most likely aware that homeschooling parents are required to make yearly submissions to the local school district concerning immunizations and course of study. What you may not be aware of is that, in Pennsylvania, homeschooling parents must also certify that neither they, nor any adults living in the child's home, have been convicted of any of certain enumerated criminal offenses within the most recent five years. It is important to note that not all criminal convictions must be reported, and likewise arrests that have not yet (or that never) turned into convictions also do not have to be reported. However, since such certifications must be made every year, it is possible that what was only an arrest last year has become a conviction this year.
If you are a current homeschooler in Pennsylvania, or if you or are considering that option and want to know more about this certification requirement, please contact us.
